2007 International Goldschmidt Student Travel Grant Program

Financial support was made available to international students who presented the results of their own research in a talk or poster format at the 2007 V.M. Goldschmidt Conference™ in Cologne, Germany. Grants were awarded within two program criteria:

Sponsors

  • Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft
  • European Association for Geochemistry
  • Geochemical Society
  • Geochemical Society of Japan
  • 2007 V.M. Goldschmidt Conference™
  • National Science Foundation1

Grant Types and Application Process

  1. Low-Economy Grants. Students and new researchers (post-docs who have received their doctorate after 1 January 2004) from low economy countries (as listed in the AGU list of countries of low-income economies).
  2. International Student Grants. Any delegate who was a student as of 1 January 2007.

Applicants were required to submit a package by mail to the Geochemical Society Business Office that included:

  • a current CV (CV had to include the applicant's email address and date of birth)
  • a copy of the applicant's submitted 2007 Goldschmidt abstract and assigned abstract number
  • a one page description of the broader impacts and significance of the applicant's research, and
  • a brief budget justification that includes which grant the applicant were applying for (Low-Economy or International Student), a description of their financial need, and availability of travel support from other sources.

Applications were received, converted to PDF files and posted on a secure website based upon the type of geochemistry (high-temperature or low-temperature).

Review Committee

The review committee consisted of Johnson Haas as the committee chair, three high-temperature geochemists, and three low-temperature geochemists.
